One of the most interesting developments in artificial intelligence this year has been the rapid emergence of powerful open-weight models from Chinese companies such as DeepSeek, Alibaba (Qwen), and Moonshot AI (Kimi). These models have achieved benchmark results that increasingly rival leading commercial AI systems in areas including reasoning, coding, mathematics, and language understanding, while offering the flexibility to be deployed on private infrastructure.
